In today's food section of the Santa Cruz Sentinel, Nancy Redwine wrote a wonderful article on my friend, Guillermo Payet. Guillermo is the creator of my favorite-ever website, LocalHarvest.org. I am a geek when it comes to maps, databases, and farms, and Guillermo has combined all three.
I finally got to meet him, after a couple of years of unfettered admiration and a few emails flying from me to him. When I first saw the map and entered my zip code, my heart went pittypat, pittypat with excitement. It's amazing, really--the national database contains about 4000 farms and an equal number of farmers markets, along with purveyors of heritage turkeys, heirloom vegetables, and a huge variety of organic products.
Nancy recently interviewed me (more on that later), and she really did a great job capturing what it is Guillermo's up to. I am delighted to know him, and even more delighted that we shall be collaborating on projects in the future.
The best thing about meeting the man who created Local Harvest is realizing that he did so because he loves small farms as much as I do.
Anne Bramley, of the much-acclaimed EatFeed.com (the best food podcast, in my book—it's very NPR-ish) loves LocalHarvest so much that she requested wedding presents from the site. (Hmmm, maybe he could add a wedding registry.)
Bravo, Guillermo! Keep up the good work.

ooh, localharvest.org is my faves too, and how i usually find people to buy from in my area, and order from outside my state. love your site!

Yeah! Local Harvest is a wonderful site for people concerned about their food and the land. It is a great service to customers and to small farms like us.
And...it led me to this great site!
